How to Calculate the Number of Days Between Two Dates
Use the Days Calculator to find days, weeks, business days and weekend days between two dates, with options to include the end date.
To calculate the days between two dates, open the Days Calculator, enter a Start date and End date, and read the result — total days, plus a breakdown into weeks, business days, weekend days and hours. Turn on Include end date if you want the end date itself counted as a day.
What the Days Calculator does
Counting days between two dates by hand is easy to get wrong, especially around month boundaries, leap years, or when you need to know how many of those days are weekdays instead of just the raw total. The Days Calculator takes a start and end date and returns the exact number of days between them, then breaks that number down into weeks and leftover days, business days (Monday through Friday), weekend days, an approximate number of months, and total hours.
How to calculate days between dates with Toolbench
- Open the Days Calculator.
- Enter the Start date.
- Enter the End date.
- Turn on Include end date if the end date itself should count as one of the days (useful for things like "how many days am I booked for" where both the check-in and check-out day count).
- Read the Days total at the top, then check the rows below for the same span expressed as weeks, business days, weekend days, approximate months and hours.
If you enter the end date before the start date, the tool still works — it swaps them internally and labels the result "Days (end is before start)" so you know the order got flipped.
A real worked example
With Start date and End date 30 days apart and Include end date left off:
| Metric | Result |
|---|---|
| Days | 30 |
| Weeks | 4 weeks, 2 days |
| Business days (Mon–Fri) | 22 |
| Weekend days | 8 |
| Months (approx.) | 0.99 |
| Hours | 720 |
Of those 30 days, 22 fall on a weekday and 8 fall on a weekend. The tool also converts the span into roughly 0.99 months (using an average month length of 30.436875 days, which accounts for the mix of 28-, 29-, 30- and 31-day months over a year) and into 720 hours (30 days × 24).
Example: counting both ends of a range
Say you're counting how many days a hotel booking covers, from January 1, 2026 to July 4, 2026:
| Include end date off | Include end date on | |
|---|---|---|
| Days | 184 | 185 |
| Weeks | 26 weeks, 2 days | 26 weeks, 3 days |
| Business days (Mon–Fri) | 132 | 132 |
| Weekend days | 52 | 53 |
| Hours | 4,416 | 4,440 |
Turning on Include end date adds exactly one day to the total — July 4 itself — which also nudges the weekend-day count up by one, since July 4, 2026 falls on a Saturday. Business days don't change here because the extra day added is a weekend day, not a weekday.
Tips and common mistakes
- Decide up front whether the end date should count. "Days between" and "days including both dates" are off by one from each other — pick the one that matches what you're actually measuring (a date range on a calendar usually shouldn't include both ends; a stay or a rental period often should).
- "Business days" counts Monday through Friday only. It doesn't know about public holidays, so a range that includes a holiday will still count that weekday as a business day.
- "Months (approx.)" is an average, not a calendar count. It divides the day count by 30.436875 (365.25 ÷ 12), so it won't always match counting whole calendar months by hand — use the Month Calculator when you need exact calendar months instead.
- Order doesn't matter. If you accidentally put the later date in the Start date field, the tool swaps the dates itself and still gives you the right day count, just with a note that the end came before the start.
- Both dates are required. Leave either one blank and the tool shows "Enter both dates." instead of a result.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?
Enter the earlier date as the Start date and the later date as the End date in the Days Calculator. It returns the total days between them, plus the same span broken into weeks, business days, weekend days and hours.
Should I include the end date in the count?
It depends on what you're measuring. For most "days until" or "days since" questions, leave Include end date off. For counting a span where both the first and last day are part of it — like a multi-day booking — turn it on to add one extra day to the total.
Does the Days Calculator count holidays as business days?
No. "Business days" only checks whether each day falls on a weekday (Monday through Friday); it has no concept of public holidays, so a holiday that falls on a weekday is still counted as a business day.
What happens if I enter the end date before the start date?
The calculator swaps the two dates internally, calculates the correct day count, and labels the result "Days (end is before start)" so you can tell the order was reversed.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. The calculation runs in your browser as you type. If you're signed in, your dates sync privately to your account; if you're signed out, nothing is saved anywhere.
